Notes From Message On Envy…
Here are few points from the Message I preached yesterday on ENVY…
Text: Hebrews 12:1&2
1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The Bible puts envy in the same category as murder, sorcery, drunkenness, & idolatry… (Galatians 5:19-21 & Romans 1:29)
5 Negative Things That ENVY Will Do:
- 1. Will rob us of happiness.
Proverbs 14:30
A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.
- 2. Will cause conflict in life.
James 4:2
You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
- 3. Will make you a resentful person.
- 4. Leads to other sins.
James 3:16
For where envy and self–seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.
- 5. Distracts us from God’s call or plan for our life.
3 Steps to overcoming ENVY:

1. Stop comparing yourself to others.

2. Be thankful for who you are and what you have.

3. Show kindness to the person that you envied
Sunday Night Reflections…
A few thoughts from a great weekend…
- It’s been HOT the last several days and Summer doesn’t officially start until next week! WOW!!! Hope these past few days are not a sign of what’s coming our way…
- The Student Ministry had a car wash to raise funds for their Florida Mission Trip. It’s next month. Pray for the Renovate Crew. We have some AWESOME young people at Faith Renewed!
- Preached the 2nd Message of the Series entitled, “SEVEN” today.
- Taught on the Subject of ENVY. There’s never ANY pleasure with this sin, yet so many people are caught up in it.
- I will try to post the notes from the Message tomorrow.
- We had folks in the altar this morning repenting of envy. THAT’S AWESOME!
- Got the opportunity to pray with several folks today. I love to see God’s Spirit moving on people and drawing them into a deeper level of faith!
- Also, got to the chance to meet several new families today. Thankful for those that God is sending to be a part of our Church Family!

I didn’t blog last week…
Even though it was a great week!
Here a few thoughts from a great day at Faith Renewed…
We kicked off a new Series this morning called, SEVEN.
We’re going to deal with the “Seven Deadly Sins” of Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth, Greed, & Lust.
We looked at the sin of PRIDE and what it can do in your life.
Here are just a few things…
- Shame-Disgrace
Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
- Strife-Conflict
Proverbs 13:10 By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well–advised is wisdom.
- Destruction
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
It may not be fun or popular to talk about issues like this, but the TRUTH is these are things that are in HIS Word and we need to understand what can happen if we don’t deal with them.
Get to teach on ENVY next week, that should be fun…
24…The End Of An Era!
Those of you reading this that know me well, already know that I’m a BIG fan of the show 24.
Last night the show came to an end. I hated to see it go!
There are not many things that I really enjoy watching on TV…
A few reasons why I enjoyed this one:
- Jack Bauer (The man!)
- Jack stood for what was right. (Yes, he was a little rough around the edges…)
- Jack got knocked down but refused to stay down. (Not a big fan of quitters.)
- Jack loved his country. (Enough said on that one.)
- Plenty of action. (He would fight for what he believes in.)
Of course I know the show is not “real”, but I do wish we had more Jack Bauer’s in the world. Someone that knows who they are, knows what’s right, and willing to stand up to the “bad guy” and fight for it! I love that about him! I can hear you now, man crush! (Call it what you must. HAHA!)
When I think about the concept of the “real-time” 24 hour period it reminds me of a Series I did last year that I entitled, get ready for this…24. (Did you see that coming?)
The Series asked the question, what if you only had 24 hours left?
James 4:14 says, For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.If this was your last 24 hours on this planet:
~What changes would you make?
~What would you do different?
~What really matters?
The reality is, none of us know when our time here will end? Are you ready for what comes next? Something to think about.
Well, I hate the show has come to an end. I’m sure I can find something better to do for an hour on Monday Night than watch TV. Jack, you will be missed. The good news is he lived, and the writers left it open for a comeback or maybe even the BIG SCREEN!
I will close this post with this challenge.
Know who you are, know what’s right, and be willing to stand up to the “bad guy” and fight for it!
