The Spirit Of Adoption

Sometimes I gain a better understanding of God’s Word by putting in hours of study.  Sometimes by divine revelation.  Sometimes however, it simply comes through living.  When it comes to the Spirit of adoption.  This has been a combination of all three…

I think I always understood the overall concept of being adopted into the Family of God.  In March of 2007 when my wife & I adopted our youngest son, I got a little more “revelation” and have been gaining a little more understanding on this subject each day.  I still remember when the judge said these powerful words, “I grant you full rights as parents, & Caleb full rights as son.”  WOW! What an amazing feeling!  It was legal because the one that sat in authority, said so.

Romans 8:15-17 says, For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs––heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

It’s truly an incredible feeling to know that I can go to God in prayer as Daddy, and He accepts me as son.  If you’ve accepted God’s grace, you are a son or daughter of God.  Not because you can earn it or deserve it, but because the One that sits in ALL authority, said so.

Below is a picture of the “Adoption Day” of my youngest son.
