Long title I know, but I thought I would get right to the point.
Last week, my family and I had an adventure!
Long story short, I ended up in the hospital with the most excruciating pain in my head I’ve ever experienced! The first diagnosis was a leaking aneurysm that would require brain surgery to repair. The final diagnosis was as a ruptured vein in my brain. Either way, I know two things to be true. It HURT, and God BROUGHT ME through it!
Here are three things that were vital for me during this time.
#1 – GRACE
Overcoming any obstacle in life will first of all take place because of the GRACE OF GOD. It would be arrogant and foolish to believe we can do anything a part from a gracious God. As you will see from the next points, I believe there are some things we must do, but even those happen because of His grace.
#2- FAITH
What you believe is crucial! I had my body telling me one thing. The doctors were backing up what my body was telling me. However, the WORD OF GOD told me something else. It says, by HIS stripes I’m healed. We all have faith in something. Who and what we have faith in is what really counts. Choose to believe His Word over everything else. Sometimes, we get to experience immediate results. Sometimes, it may take longer…Either way, stand on the promises of God and refuse to put your faith in anything else.
#3 – DRIVE
You have to make up in your mind that you’re not staying in your current situation. Don’t settle for less than God has for you. I had a desire to get out and get back to life. I didn’t run without the doctors consent. That would also be foolish! He told me to take it easier than normal, so that’s what I did. After I got the thumbs up, I went for it. Fear, doubt, lack of discipline, and many other things will try to stop you from moving forward after a setback. REFUSE to allow those words to be part of your vocabulary. Any great goal in life will require effort on our part. We have a saying around our church, “Do what you can do, and trust God to do what you can’t do.” Is there there something God is waiting on you to do? It all starts with a decision. Then make a plan. Finally, surround yourself with people that will help you walk out the plan.
These three things have changed, and are continuing to change my life. The good news is, you can experience them as well! All three are available to you.
I want to close with a BIG THANK YOU to EVERYONE that prayed for and reached out to my family and I. The show of love and support we received was incredible. I’ve been truly blessed with the most loving family, church family, and friends a man could have. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Honoring the memory of a wonderful soldier and young man.
A week ago today, my wife and I received the call that no pastor ever wants to get. We were asked to come to the home of some close friends, and church members, as they begin the most difficult journey of their lives.
The Whitmire’s had to to hear the news, that their 20 year old son, was killed in action while serving our country in Afghanistan. Our first prayer that night came from Philippians 4:7, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. God’s Word was declared over the family, and with my own eyes, I’ve watched that Word come to life. This family has been a constant example of grace. They have a foundation that is built upon The Rock, Christ Jesus, and they’re still standing even during this storm. I don’t know how anyone could go through something…

Last week as I was jogging a new route, I caught a glimpse of something in the distance. As I drew a little closer, it was just as I expected. HONEYSUCKLES. At first I just jogged on by. I had a good pace going and didn’t want to mess it up. As I continued on, I began to think about those times that I pulled my bicycle off the side of the road as a little kid and enjoyed that refreshing taste. IT BECAME TOO MUCH RESIST! I had to stop and go back. Why interrupt a good pace? Why risk looking a little strange to those passing by and seeing a grown man picking honeysuckles??? BECAUSE I’VE TASTED.
This experience brought a Bible verse to mind. Psalm 34:8 says, Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! What an AWESOME VERSE! Many times we get so busy with life and everything it throws at us; that we don’t pray, read The Word, or spend time in worship. This is what I’ve ALWAYS found to be true. WHEN I SPEND TIME WITH GOD, IT’S ALWAYS GOOD! If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, don’t wait another moment. Stop reading this blog and talk to Him. YOU WILL SEE just how good He really is. Don’t get too busy for the things that matter most.
Was it worth taking a few minutes away from my run that day and maybe even risking a little embarrassment? ABSOLUTELY!
I’m not a big New Year’s resolution kind of guy. I never kept them, so I quit making them. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I made one.
2015 will be different…This year I feel like the Lord challenged me to make a resolution. It’s simple. My resolution is to tell at least one person a day, “Jesus LOVES You”.
Those three words changed my life. I believe they can change every person that hears them. It’s clear our world is in a mess and desperately needs help. What will change it? The love of Jesus.
Romans 10:14 says, how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?
This RESOLUTION has the potential to cause a REVOLUTION. Will I follow through with my commitment everyday? Time will tell. I’m sure there will probably be days that I get busy, and it slips my mind. This I do know. When someone hears those three powerful words, the possibilities are endless.
Here’s my challenge to you, WILL YOU JOIN ME?
